I remember when gaming was simply a hobby.
You played after school, competed with friends, and eventually someone told you to “stop wasting time on games.”
That perception has changed completely.
Today, gaming is a massive global industry with esports, streaming, creators, sponsorships, tournaments and professional players.
A player can now make money by:
- Competing professionally
- Streaming
- Creating content
- Joining esports organizations
- Coaching or analyzing
- Building a gaming business
The rise of mobile gaming changed the game even further, especially in India. You no longer needed an expensive PC or console to become part of the gaming ecosystem.
And esports has taken it to another level.
Events like the Esports World Cup now offer prize pools worth tens of millions of dollars, with teams and players competing from around the world.
What was once:
“You're just playing games.”
has become:
“You're building a career in gaming.”
I've been gaming since childhood, so watching that transformation has been crazy.
Gaming didn't just become bigger.
The world finally started taking it seriously.
